Game Recap

DeSmet Jesuit (St. Louis, MO), a program with a strong lacrosse history of winning state championships, came to town to play 2 local IHSLA teams (Zionsville being other local opponent) while on their Spring Break. This contest would be Brebeuf’s first big test of the season after an impressive offensive showing in it’s first opening game win vs Roncalli 17-4. The first quarter was similar to a title boxing match, with both teams feeling each other out and trying to figure out each other’s strength’s and weaknesses. Brebeuf controlled the ball in it’s offensive end for longer possessions than DeSmet, but could only tally 2 goals to DeSmet’s 4 goals. The second quarter was an even more tighter defensive battled that ended with DeSmet only scoring 2 goals to Brebeuf’s 1 goal. At half time the score was 6-3, DeSmet. In the thirld quarter, DeSmet was able to capitalize on several defensive breakdowns by Brebeuf and scored 8 goals to Brebeuf’s 4. The forth quarter was dominated by DeSmet again with 4 goals to Brebeuf’s 2 for a final score of 18-9. The Brebeuf lacrosse team proved that it could compete against a team that has a history of winning state championships and being nationally ranked. There were many moments throughout the game were Brebeuf was able to take control and meet the performance level of its opponent on the offensive and defensive ends of the field. Unfortunately, we just had too many breakdowns that allowed our opponent to be successful. Overall, it was a game that helped the Braves continue on its path of improvement. Brebeuf’s scoring breakdown was as follows: For the second game in a row, Will Roberts led the team in scoring with 3 goals and 3 assists. Jack Leonardi and John King tallied 2 goals apiece. Jackson Wheeler provided 1 goal and 1 assist. Brandon Levine notched in 1 goal and John King added 1 assist. Goalie Steven Geske ended the day with 14 saves.
