Game Recap

For the first time in Brebeuf’s varsity lacrosse team’s young 2017 season, the Braves found themselves behind in a game. Noblesville came into today’s game 0-1 after losing their opener to Brebeuf’s Circle City Conference rival Guerin Catholic. The miners were on a mission to beat the Braves and right their record. However, Brebeuf had different plans. The game started off as a defensive battle. It looked like a heavy weight boxing match with both teams feeling each other out throughout the 1st and 2nd quarters. The game was physical up and down the field with a multitude of penalties being called on both teams. By the end of the 1st half, the Braves found themselves down by 1 goal, losing 2-3. For the Miners, they went into the locker room on a high, feeling they were half way to accomplishing their goal of defeating Brebeuf. The 3rd quarter started with Brebeuf sending a big message to Noblesville. The message was that the Braves had another gear to shift to and the question would be can the Miners step up their game to match them. By the end of the 3rd quarter, the message was received. The Braves scored 7 goals to Noblesville 1, taking the lead for good. Brebeuf’s defense, led by goalie Steven Geske who made several key stops and defensemen, Charlie Kroot, Lucas Lowry and Henry Goldenberg all locked down their men to hold the Miners to only 1 goal in each of the 3rd and 4th quarters. The Braves never looked back after going ahead in the 3rd, outscoring the Miners in the second half by 9 goals to the Miners 2 goals. For the second game in a row, Will Roberts led all scoring with 4 goals and 4 assists. Other contributing scorers for Brebeuf were Jackson Wheeler with 3 goals, Jack Leonardi with 2 goals and Will King and Erik Klem with 1 goal apiece. The Braves will next take their undefeated record of 2-0 to Zionsville on Wednesday, March 22nd.
