The Brebeuf Jesuit girls soccer team earned its eighth-straight shutout victory and 15th consecutive win overall with an 11-0 triumph over Warren Central on Wednesday night in the quarter-final round of the Marion County Tournament at Pike High School. The Braves, now 15-0-1 and three-time defending champion in the tourney, will play in the semis on Saturday morning at 11:45 vs. Lawrence Central at North Central High School. The title game is set for Saturday night at 6:45 p.m.
The Braves scored two goals within the first eights minutes of the contest and led 4-0 just 20 minutes into the first half. Brebeuf led 6-0 at the half. In their last eight games, the Braves have outscored their opponents 40-0!
Freshman Courtney Kelley led the way with three goals for Brebeuf while junior Leigh Ann Roth added three assists. Sophomores Paige Edens and Melanie Marshall each had two goals and one assist on the evening. Junior Brianna Arthur contributed a goal and an assist while leading scorer, senior captain Hallie Pearson, netted her 14th goal of 2017.
Freshman forward Gabbie Lindeman and junior Beth Kelley each added goals while contributing assists were: sophomore Sophie Weeter and junior Alex Meltzer.
Seniors Reni Osuntokun and Chloe Levine split halves in the nets in the shutout victory. Brebeuf, ranked No. 1 in the country by MaxPreps, is 34-1 in its last 35 games over two years.
