Game Recap

The Brebeuf Jesuit girls soccer team made history Saturday night at North Central High School. The Braves won a school-record fourth straight Marion County Tournament championship with a 4-0 shutout win over Lawrence North. It marked the Braves second shutout victory of the day, their 10th consecutive shutout win and gave the nationally-ranked No. 1 Braves a 17-0-1 record heading into the IHSAA state tournament that begins Tuesday at Guerin vs. Pike. Brebeuf has outscored opponents 75-5 in 2017.

In its history, Brebeuf has won two consecutive county tournaments titles twice; but this run of four straight is unprecedented. Braves coach Angela Berry White also made history — her four straight titles as coach has been accomplished only once before — North Central mentor Tony Jacklin (2002-05). Brebeuf’s total of 9 championships is second only to North Central’s 11 in tournament history.

Senior goalie Reni Osuntokun was outstanding again, registering her second complete-game shutout of the day and her 13th of the season.

Brebeuf’s first goal came just 11 minutes into the game when sophomore Paige Edens scored off an assist from junior Brianna Arthur and senior Jordan Smith. Less than two minutes later Edens scored again — this time the assist going to senior Hallie Pearson and Arthur.

The Braves led 2-0 at the half. With 12 minutes to play, freshman Gabbie Lindeman took a pass from sophomore Melanie Marshall and scored. Arthur closed the scoring with the assist going to senior Caroline Bice and senior Beth Messaglia.
