The Brebeuf Jesuit girls soccer team opened IHSAA state tournament play in fine fashion Tuesday night with an impressive 10-0 victory over Pike at Guerin. The Braves, now 18-0-1 and undefeated in 37 of their last 38 games will play at Guerin in the next round against Carmel on Thursday at 5:00 p.m
Senior captain goalie Reni Osuntokun registered her 11th straight shutout, 14th overall and 15th game without allowing a goal. Osuntokun has allowed only three goals all year.
Senior captain Kayla Fitts and sophomore Paige Edens each scored two goals for Brebeuf, which has outscored opponents 85-5 this season. Junior Alex Meltzer added a goal and two assists while senior captain and leading scorer Hallie Pearson contributed a goal and an assist. Pearson also leads the team in assists with 15. Senior captain Alexa Holl had two assists.
Sophomore Sophie Weeter added a goal and an assist. Also scoring goals for the Braves were three freshmen: Courtney Kelley, Gabbie Lindeman and Morgan Shine. Shine became the 16th different Brave to score in 2017 with her first varsity goal. Registering assists for Brebeuf were: sophomore Molly Kennedy, junior Brianna Arthur and senior Caroline Bice.
Anchoring the defense were: senior captain Jordan Smith, senior Hope Edens and junior Kate Gunderson.
