Brebeuf Jesuit Names JJ Yarbrough Head Coach for Ultimate Frisbee
JJ Yarbrough grew up in Indianapolis, IN where he attended St. Luke Catholic School before moving to Zionsville for high school. JJ grew up playing football, basketball and baseball and was a member of Zionsville High School’s 2006 Sectional and Regional Championship Baseball teams. After high school, JJ attended Purdue University and discovered the sport of Ultimate Frisbee. He was a member of Purdue’s team for five years and graduated with a degree in Sales and Marketing, a minor in Organizational Leadership and Supervision, and was a recipient of Purdue University’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Certificate.
After graduating from Purdue, JJ moved back to Indianapolis to pursue a sales career. He continued playing Ultimate competitively for various club teams between Indianapolis and Chicago, highlighted by a second place finish at Regionals in 2012 with an Indianapolis mixed team.
In 2016, JJ began his Ultimate coaching career by heading back to his alma mater of Purdue for the 2016-17 season. Inheriting an extremely talented group of seniors, he helped lead the team to its first top-3 finish in the region and most successful season in program history, finishing the season ranked #20 in the country. During this time, he helped develop four professional AUDL (American Ultimate Disc League) players, two of which currently play for the Indianapolis Alleycats and one who was selected to the Team USA Under-24 team in 2018.
“We are very excited to have JJ leading our program. He is a leader in the Ultimate community, knows our student-athletes, and values the mission of Brebeuf and education-based athletics,” said Brebeuf Jesuit Athletic Director Ted Hampton. “We are looking forward to his transformational and purpose-driven approach in developing men and women for others.”
JJ has been an assistant coach for Brebeuf Jesuit since the spring of 2018 and has seen great team success with a State Runner-Up that season and a 3rd place finish this past spring. He brings experience and multiple offensive systems to inject into the program and is very excited to continue the growth we have seen over the past few years. A focus on Brebeuf Jesuit’s mission, an emphasis on family, and playing for one another, will once again be at the forefront of the Ultimate team philosophy. With many returning seniors, a state championship is well within reach.
