Fort Wayne, IN – This past weekend the Brebeuf Jesuit Braves Hockey team captured the 3A ISHSHA State Playdowns to earn a spot in the State Championship game this coming Saturday, March 7, in Dyer, IN.
Entering into the tournament as the lowest seed at #8, Brebeuf knocked off the #1 seeded Lake Central Indians by a score of 3-2 on Friday night and then won 6-1 versus the #5 seed Westfield on Saturday to earn a spot in the State Semifinal on Sunday vs Culver. The game was an intense, tight-checking game that remained tied at 0-0 midway through the third period until Senior Defenseman Riley Johnson found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. A determined Brebeuf team lead by Senior Goaltender Nick Boccone shut down all Culver attempts at a comeback and Senior Matt Mckay scored with 1:40 left in the game to give Brebeuf a 2-0 lead and a trip to the State Championship game for the second consecutive year.
The 3A State Final will be played at the Midwest Training and Ice Center in Saint John, IN, the same location as last year when the Braves participated in the 2A State Final versus #3 Crown Point. Puck drop is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, at 4 pm ET.
