Poor Shooting Dooms Braves at Zionsville, 50-31

Brebeuf’s three-game win streak ended in a familiar spot Friday night, as the Braves managed just ten second half points in a 50-31 loss at Zionsville, their ninth straight loss to the Eagles. It was Brebeuf’s lowest scoring varsity game since a 36-30 sectional loss to Guerin in 2014. Zionsville junior Camden Moore was terrific with 15 points to lead the home team, but the story of this game was Brebeuf just having one of those nights where nothing went in. Layups, midrange shots, runners, three pointers- you name it, and Brebeuf missed them. Zionsville was far from transcendent in the game, but they scored the last seven points of the second quarter to take a 26-21 halftime lead, and pushed the lead to 15 after three with a nine-point run. On this night, it was more than enough. It was a game oddly reminiscent of Butler’s 53-41 NCAA Finals loss to UConn in 2011, where Brad Stevens’ Bulldogs shot the ball so poorly (19%) that it didn’t matter how well Shelvin Mack dished or Matt Howard rebounded. It’s called “basketball” for a reason- at some point your team has to get the ball through the basket in order to win. Brebeuf – like Butler in 2011- is good enough to win most of the games on their schedule, but not without the ball occasionally going through the peach basket. Dr. Naismith designed it that way. Allen Glunt’s team falls to 5-4, and will have four days to lick their wounds before hosting Pike in the first round of the 2026 Marion County Boys Tournament. Then they host Indy Metropolitan to kick off a long homestand on Jan. 20. From there, it gets real in a hurry: Guerin on the 23rd, Chatard on the 30th and Shortridge on Feb. 5. (As in: Shortridge, the team that beat Lafayette Jeff and Harrison, and lost to Fishers by 2.) All games are at home, so pack the gym to cheer on your Braves!
