The Brebeuf Brave’s travelled to Fort Wayne today to take on the defending Indiana State Champion Homestead Spartans in Fort Wayne. Brebeuf got off to a quick start when Parker Baumann scored early in the first period on an unassisted play that gave the Brave’s the early lead (1-0). A few minutes later the Homestead Spartan’s were able to capitalize on a power play with a beautiful goal, knotting the game at 1. Two minutes later the Brave’s were able to answer with a break away goal from Matt McKay, assisted by lineman Lane Erickson.
The Brave’s then dominated the second period of the game, starting with another goal by Parker Baumann, assisted by Ryan Witchger and David Peacock. Forward, David Duncan got on the scoring sheet with another great pass from David Peacock, and Matt McKay. The second period would end with the score at 4-1.
In the third and final period of the game, the Brave’s picked up right where they left off when Colton Jung tipped a shot from defenseman, Mack Perkins, into the top corner to make the score 5-1. The defending State Champion Spartans did not give up and came back to score 2 goals making the score 5-3. The Brave’s were able to hang on and win, with goalie Nick Boccone saving over 92 percent of the shots he faced.
The Brave’s improved to a record of (2-1) on the season. The next game will be Brebeuf’s, “Midnight Madness” game against Hamilton Southeastern at Carmel IceSkadium next Friday at 11:00 pm.
