The JV Braves ball club split a double header with visiting Marion on Saturday. In game 1 Andrew Davis was stingy on the mound, giving up just 1 hit over 5 innings. The home team bats stayed hot in producing 12 runs on 11 hits with Jack Moroknek chipping in a 3 RBI game.
Game 2 featured a comeback from Marion as Freshman Max Cookerly made his first JV start. Cookerly managed to keep the Braves in front, allowing just 2 runs over 4 1/3 but when he got in a jam in the 5th with the bases loaded Scott Esteb helped out in relief, inducing a rally ending double play. Brebeuf bats were again hot and belted out 14 hits including 3 each from Moroknek and Davis.
To Marion’s credit they did not quit and after being down 5-2, they rallied again to score 6 in the 7th. Brebeuf answered back with two of their own in the last half inning but couldn’t quite push the tying run across from 3rd base and fell 90 ft short for a final of 8-7.
With the split, the JV team moved to 8-4 on the season as Carmel comes to Father O’brien field this Monday night.
