Brebeuf Hockey Has Great Start To Kick Off 2018:
For the second day in a row, the Brebeuf Hockey team was involved in a back and forth thriller, this time against the South Stars A team. The Brave’s, who were coming off a 3-2 victory against Westfield High School Friday night, were right back in action Saturday afternoon. Perhaps it took the Brave’s a period to get their legs going as the South Stars scored early on a rather lethargic looking Brebeuf team. However, the Brave’s would soon pick up the intensity and turn a lethargic start into a very physical game. The score would remain 1-0 into the third period when the South Stars would extend their lead about halfway through the period, to 2 goals. Brebeuf Senior, Thomas Burgess, would answer only a few minutes after the Stars extended their lead, cutting it in half, 2-1. The last 5 minutes of the game went back and forth, both teams having quality chances. Then, with only a few minutes remaining the game, Junior, Brock Moore found the back of the net to tie the game at 2!
In the final 2 minutes of the game the Stars were able to muster one last charge in the Brebeuf zone, where Brebeuf goalie, Nick Boccone was able to make a pair of remarkable saves. Then in transition with under a minute to go, the Brave’s gained entry in the Star’s zone. With just 3 seconds left on the clock, Senior-Ethan Krohne, found himself with just enough space to get off a shot that caught every inch of the goal frame, missing the game winner by less than half an inch!
The game ended in a tie, 2-2.
The Brave’s finished their weekend 1-0-1.
The Brave’s will be in Evansville this next weekend in a rematch against Evansville High School, on Saturday Jan 13th.
