The boy’s varsity lacrosse team started their 2019 season with an impressive win over Center Grove at home. In the first 3 quarters of the game, Brebeuf struggled to pull away from the Trojans, with the game being tied or with the Braves only able to achieve a 1 goal lead. It wasn’t until the 4th quarter when the Braves was able to pull away, achieving a 5 goal lead with 1 min to go in the game.
Brebeuf’s offense had a balanced scoring attack with 7 players contributing goals. Sophomore midfielder, Quinn Fitzgerald lead the scoring with 3 goals and 1 assist. Senior midfelder, David Hirshfeld contributed another 2 goals and 1 assist, followed by Matthew McKay with 1 goal and 1 assist and Erik Klem, Lachlan Latz and Kevin LeBlanc each contributing 1 goal each.
Junior goalie, Corbin Riggins lead the defense with stopping the Trojans with 8 saves as they had 23 shots. Defensemen, Nick Atkins, Hudson Reamer and Roman Casciani all contributed to keeping Center Grove to its low offensive output.
The Braves will take its 1-0 start on the road for the next 2 games. On Wednesday, March 20th, Brebeuf will travel to Zionsville for a showdown of 2 teams who went deep into the state playoffs last season followed by a trip over to play Bishop Chatard on Friday, March 22.
