The Braves Hockey team was determined to bounce back after a tough late game loss last night. Brebeuf would play host to the Stars from the South Side of Indy in an afternoon bought.
Michael Bounsall got his day started with a goal, after line-mate and Assistant Captain, Parker Baumann, found him cross ice for the opening goal of the game. Andrew Penca, continued his solid weekend, as he sniped the top corner of the net for his third goal of the weekend. Bounsall and Baumann, linked up once again in almost the exact same play the scored on earlier in the period, for Bounsall’s second goal of the game.
The Braves would come out in the second period and score a season high, six goals in the period. Baumann traded an assist for a goal, when he received a pass from Ben Hannel, then crept towards the net patiently waiting for an opening. Finally, Baumann fired a quick wrist shot that nicked the bottom half of the crossbar and went in for a power play goal. The second goal of the period was all defensemen, as Corbin Riggins snagged a pass from team Captain, Mack Perkins, winding up for a slap shot and driving the puck past the visiting goalie. Ben Hannel, found the puck at his skates deep in the Brebeuf zone, looking up he saw Baumann sneaking behind the Stars defense all alone. Hannel fired a stretch pass to Baumann, who skated in on goal all alone, chipping the puck off the goalie and into the net for his second goal of the day. Lane Erickson and line-mate Sarkis Torosian, connected for the second straight game and Torosian’s first goal of the weekend. Then, it was Andrew Penca getting back in on the scoring action, when line-mate Matt McKay, chipped a pass over a defenders stick. Penca quickly let go of a wrist shot that sniped the corner of the twine. Hannel got back in the scoring action, saucing a puck down low to McKay, who skated the puck around the visiting net, waiting patiently for an opening, then firing a shoot over the glove of the Stars goalie.
Penca and McKay would link up again in the third period, for the season high, tenth goal of the game. This time Penca would be the one setting up McKay for his second goal of the game.
Freshman Goaltender, Jace Wilson, stopped all 8 shots he faced, adding another shutout to his stellar freshman campaign.
The Braves Senior Night will be this upcoming Friday night, at the Carmel IceSkadium, against their rivals, the Carmel Greyhounds. Puck drop is at 8:00.
