The Brebeuf Jesuit girls soccer team defeated Lebanon 4-1 Thursday evening at Ritter and moved onto Saturday night’s 7 PM championship game of Sectional #26 of the IHSAA state girls soccer tournament. The Braves are now 13-5-2 overall in 2019.
The teams battled for almost 35 scoreless minutes until the 5:51 mark when junior Izzy Zoeller crossed the ball to the far post where freshman Mia Winters scored on a header. Just over two minutes later junior Courtney Kelley found senior Molly Kennedy for a 2-0 Braves halftime edge.
At the 26:32 mark of the second half Winters scored again off a pass from senior Sophie Weeter. After Lebanon scored with 22 minutes remaining the Braves got right back on the scoreboard exactly five minutes later when Kelley scored unassisted on a free kick.
Junior goalie Savannah McNeal had five saves in the victory for the Braves.
