3A #10 Brebeuf saw it’s football season end in a familiar fashion, as 3A #1-ranked Bishop Chatard steamrolled the Braves 35-3 in the Sectional #28 championship game. Chatard used a dominant run game and timely passing to pile up yards (433), first downs (24) and time of possession (28:17) in the rout, keeping Brebeuf’s potent passing offense on the sidelines for most of the evening.
Senior QB Drake Hagerman was harassed all night by the Trojan defense, resulting in just 13 completions for 68 yards. Hagerman was the lone bright spot for Brebeuf’s running game as well, with 34 yards rushing. Ryan Kerseff kicked his third field goal of the year for the Braves’ lone score.
Chatard was led by tailbacks Tommy Hannon and Matthew Coons, who combined for 213 yards on 38 carries. Trojan quarterback Carter St. John was efficient in passing the ball for 195 yards and four TDs, two each to Coons and Logan O’Brien.
Braves junior DE Joe Strickland completed his 2020 All-Marion County season, and kick-started his 2021 All-State campaign, with 10 tackles including two tackles-for-loss, and 4 QB hurries.
Hagerman ended his senior season with 1990 passing yards in 10 games for Coach Matt Geske’s inaugural Braves team, which finishes the season at 5-5.
