It was a great night for the Braves as they competed in the LC sectional. We had big meet points from all! The 3200m relay team of Kate Ricks, Katie O’Donnell, Mikayla Gallagher, and Katherine Modrall took 1st place with an impressive 9:34. Next up was Nakita Turner-Lee who tied a nearly 40 year old sectional record in the 100m Hurdles with a 14.10 which also happens to be a new school record and the fastest time in the state so far. Freshman Caroline Potts also placed 8th in the hurdles, the future for hurdles looks quite bright. Next came Semira Killebrew who won the 100m dash with a 11.65 and Hanna Hearn 12.48 took 4th place. Semira’s time breaks her current school record and is the fastest 100m dash in the state so far. In the 1600m run Katherine Modrall took an early lead and never looked back. Her time of 5:00.47 puts her as one of the top 1600m runners in the state. Mikayla Gallagher placed 5th with a 5:27. The 400m relay was next and the Braves with Nakita, Hanna, Brooklyn Chestnut and Semira took first and set a new sectional record with a 47.41. In the 400m Rachel Moore placed 6th and Victoria Cassman 8th scoring in the sectional. Marley Altman also placed 5th in the 300m Hurdles with a 47.39 personal best. Next up was the 800m run where Katherine took 1st with a 2:20, and Katie placed 3rd with a 2:23. Semira then took 1st in the 200m dash with a state’s best of 24.47, Hanna placed 6th with a 26.44. In the 3200m run Kate and Zoe Simmons took it out strong putting a huge gap between them and the pack. Zoe then took the lead with 3 laps to go and finished 1st with a 11:08 and Kate finished 2nd with a 11:28. Taylor Gray placed 4th in the long jump with a 16-11.50 efforts and Mia Wagner flirted with a new school record in the pole vault finishing 5th overall. The final event of the evening was the 1600m relay where Brooklyn, Rachel, Victoria, and Alex Ezell took 4th place with Alex running an outstanding 60.39 split. The Braves are ready and poised for a strong showing at next weeks Regional competition at Ben Davis on Tuesday, May 22.
